Q: How do I register for a tournament or join the club?

A: There is no formal joining process. The first time you attend one of our events, we’ll ask for your name and some contact information so we can keep you in the loop. Membership in the US Backgammon Federation is highly encouraged, but not required in order to attend.

Q: How should I prepare for my first time at a Charlotte Backgammon Club event?

A: Just make sure you know the rules of backgammon, including the use of the doubling cube and the Crawford rule for match play. Other than that, come as you are!

Q: What should I bring with me?

A: If you have a backgammon board or a game clock, please bring it. There are usually plenty to go around, so don’t worry if you don’t have your own. All you are required to bring with you is the cash entry fee.

Q: How long should I expect the tournament to last?

A: Four to six hours total, but most players are eliminated in two or three hours.

Q: How many players do you usually have?

A: You can see the attendance levels at recent tournaments by going to the Standings page, clicking on “Tournament Results” and then clicking the link next to each date. The number of players will be near the top of the results page for that tournament.

Q: Are you going to be playing this Wednesday?

A: Yes! Unless it’s literally Christmas Day, we will be there!

Q: When is the next monthly tournament?

A: Generally, we plan these six months at a time, and you can see the dates on our event calendar. In November or December, we’ll set the dates for January-June, and in May or June, we’ll set the dates for July-December.
